Heartburn No More™ - Cure Acid Reflux Holistically

What is Acid Reflux Disease?

Acid reflux Disease (GERD)

is a chronic digestive disorder that can best be described as stomach acid flowing back (refluxing) up the food pipe (esophagus). The rising acid liquid from the stomach irritates the esophagus lining and causes heartburn symptoms and can result in GERD related damage.

Symptoms of Acid Reflux Disease (GERD) Include:

Burning pain in the chest (heartburn) that can be felt as high as the throat, difficult swallowing and a sour taste in the mouth, frequent sore throat and hoarseness or laryngitis. When these symptoms occur regularly, more than twice a week you may want a doctor to examine you for acid reflux disease.

Your doctor may recommend tests and use x-ray and endoscopy among other methods to get a better picture of your digestive system. If your doctor finds that your symptoms indicate your condition is actually acid reflux disease (GERD) you may need prescription medication or even surgery to resolve the problem.

Some health conditions can increase the risk of acid reflux disease like, obesity, smoking, asthma, hiatus hernia and pregnancy. A condition known as Barrett’s Esophagus can develop over time when the esophagus is exposed to stomach acid due to acid reflux disease. This condition changes the tissue lining of the esophagus and has been linked to an increased risk of esophageal cancer.

Treatment for Heartburn Symptoms

usually begin with typical acid reflux remedies like Tums or Rolaids etc. to relieve the initial pain and many try an acid reflux diet as a solution  however, if your doctor determines you have acid reflux disease (GERD) you will probably receive prescription medication to help resolve the cause as well as the symptoms. Failing success of prescription medications, your doctor may recommend other treatments including surgery.

Acid reflux disease (GERD) can be successfully treated however like most health issues the sooner they are diagnosed the simpler and less invasive the treatment will be.
