Heartburn No More™ - Cure Acid Reflux Holistically

Acid Reflux Causes and Some Surprising Data

Acid Reflux Causes

are varied and contrary to popular belief most are not due to excess stomach acid but actually the presence of an organism called “helicobacter pylori”. Discovered by Dr. Barry Marshall, this tiny bacteria causes low-level, but chronic inflammation of the tissue lining the stomach and produces symptoms similar to that of acid reflux.

Traditionally the condition known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a symptom caused by a hiatal hernia; a condition where the upper part of the stomach protrudes through the diaphragm and allows stomach acid to rise into the esophagus. When food travels down the esophagus into the stomach, a muscle valve called the lower esophageal sphincter or (LES) for short, clenches sealing off the stomach and its harsh digestion environment from the esophagus and preventing acid rising back up. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) with its associated heartburn symptoms occurs when the LES does not close completely and acid from the stomach rises up (reflux) into the esophagus. This condition requires a doctor’s attention and usually involves treatments of prescription drugs and sometimes surgery.

However…if your doctor confirms that your symptoms are not caused by a hiatal hernia or other physical condition, then the cause of your acid reflux may be that your attempts to reduce stomach acid is suppressing your body’s ability to kill off the helicobacter bacteria. Suppressing stomach acid can actually make the heartburn and acid reflux symptoms worse.

What seems like an unorthodox approach to treating acid reflux, increasing the presence of healthy bacteria has been found to be an effective treatment for one of the most counter intuitive acid reflux causes.

Restoring natural gastric balance and function is the key to eliminating heartburn and acid reflux symptoms. In addition to being one of the most effective acid reflux remedies is the benefit of optimal digestion and increased absorption of nutrients resulting in an overall health improvement.

It’s important to make sure that as part of your acid reflux diet you are consuming plenty of good bacteria which is present in fermented foods for instance, to help balance healthy flora improving digestion and eliminating helicobacter bacteria naturally.

Healthy Essential Bacteria Can Be Found in Foods Like:

* Yogurt (natural, without sugar added)
* Sauerkraut
* Kefir (a fermented milk drink)
* Probiotic supplements

It’s important to check the labels of commercial products and avoid products with added sugar. Sugar just feeds the helicobacter pylori bacteria and will give rise to the same old symptoms.

Health food stores are usually a good source quality fermented healthy foods but you should still check the label to be sure. You can make your own kefir and sauerkraut yourself at home too.

Acid reflux causes are not always what they seem and often the non traditional approach will produce results especially when other methods have failed.

    Hi, it seems we are on the same page about this acid reflux stuff. I have seen a lot of junk articles while searching for information. It’s nice to find good information like yours, that’s easy for people to understand. Perhaps you might like to do a guest blogger article for my site. What do you think?
